Parry Murray & Company Limited takes care with the information people give us. This page explains what we collect through this website, why we hold it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who we are

Parry Murray & Company Limited is the data controller for information collected through this website. We are registered in England and Wales under company number 00244308, at 3rd Floor Simpson House, 6 Cherry Orchard Road, Croydon CR0 6BA, United Kingdom.

What we collect

Almost everything we hold about you is something you typed into a form and chose to send us.

Our contact form asks for your first name, last name, email address, the company you work for, your reason for getting in touch, and your message. Everything except the company field is required.

The shorter enquiry forms elsewhere on the site ask only for your name, email address and message.

Ordinary technical information is recorded as you browse: which pages you visit, roughly which part of the world you are in, the type of browser and device you are using, and how you arrived at the site. This is used in aggregate to understand how the site performs. We do not use it to build a profile of you.

We do not take payments through this website, and we never ask for sensitive information such as health details, ethnicity or beliefs. Please don't include anything of that kind in a message to us.

Why we hold it, and on what legal basis

To reply to your enquiry. If you write to us about a fabric, a project or a sample, we use your details to answer you and to carry the conversation forward. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who approach our business — and, where your enquiry is a step towards placing an order with us, the fact that handling it is necessary before entering into a contract.

To deal with careers enquiries. Our contact form lets you select "Careers" as your reason for writing. If you do, we treat your message as an expression of interest in working with us and pass it to the relevant person internally. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in considering people who want to join the company.

To keep the website working and secure. Our forms are protected against automated abuse, and our host keeps technical logs that help diagnose faults. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a site that works and isn't overwhelmed by spam.

To understand how the site is used. We look at aggregate visitor statistics to see which pages are useful and where people lose their way. Our lawful basis is your consent, where consent is required for the technologies involved, and otherwise our legitimate interest in improving the site.

We do not send marketing emails from this website. There is no newsletter sign-up and no mailing list. If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent separately and clearly first.

Who else sees it

Enquiries sent through this website are handled by our UK team in Croydon. They are not forwarded to our manufacturing partners in India. We do not sell, rent or trade anyone's information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.

A small number of suppliers handle information on our behalf as part of running the site:

• Squarespace, which hosts this website and stores form submissions for us.

• Microsoft, whose Microsoft 365 service holds our mailboxes and carries the emails our forms generate.

• Mimecast, which filters and routes our email to protect our mailboxes from spam and malicious messages.

• Google, which provides the reCAPTCHA system protecting our forms from automated abuse.

Each acts under contract and may only use the information to provide their service to us. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to take professional advice.

Information leaving the UK

Some of the suppliers above are based in, or store information in, the United States, so a limited amount of information reaches servers outside the UK.

Form submissions are stored on Squarespace's infrastructure. Emails generated by our forms are held in Microsoft 365 mailboxes and routed through Mimecast, our email security provider. Google's reCAPTCHA processes limited technical information about your device and how you interact with the page in order to judge whether a submission is genuine.

These providers operate under safeguards approved for transfers of this kind — certification under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, and the standard contractual clauses recognised by the UK. You can ask us for details of the arrangement covering a particular supplier.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries for two years from our last contact with you, so that we can pick up a conversation where it left off and keep a record of what was discussed.

Careers enquiries are kept for twelve months unless you ask us to hold your details on file for longer.

Aggregate visitor statistics contain no names or contact details and are kept indefinitely.

If you ask us to delete your information sooner, we will, unless we have a legal reason to keep it.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. This site uses two kinds.

Necessary ones, which make the site work — remembering your progress through a form, submitting it securely, and letting reCAPTCHA tell a person from a robot. The site cannot function properly without these.

Analytics ones, set by Squarespace, which count visits and page views so we can see how the site is used. These are not used for advertising.

We do not use advertising or marketing trackers. There are no third-party ad networks, no social media pixels and no cross-site profiling on this site.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking the necessary ones will stop our forms working properly.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the information we hold about you

• have anything inaccurate corrected

• ask us to delete information we no longer need

• ask us to restrict how we use it while a question is resolved

• object to our using it on the basis of legitimate interests

• receive information you gave us in a portable format

• withdraw consent, where we relied on your consent, at any time

Write to privacy@parrymurray.co.uk and we will respond within one month. There is no charge.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF, on 0303 123 1113, or at ico.org.uk. We would rather you raised it with us first so we can put it right, but you are under no obligation to do so.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the page for a reasonable period.
